Happy New Year, everybody! With 2020 behind us, we’re truly hoping for brighter, safer, and more positive days this year. We’re excited to dig into more projects, and we’re digging deep with Ben Harman’s newest set of prints for the original Indiana Jones trilogy, and AJ Masthay’s print lottery for his newest portrait of Jerry Garcia, “Stella Blue”!
Ben’s set of Indiana Jones prints focuses on Indy and the memorable caves, catacombs, and tombs he adventures through in the original trilogy of films. The verticality of Ben’s prints really puts into perspective how perilous Indy’s journeys are, and spotlights the intricate set scenery of each film.
AJ’s “Stella Blue” portrait of Jerry portrays the legend standing loud and proud in front of the Wall of Sound. Per AJ,
“My motivation in creating this new Jerry Garcia portrait was to capture not only the man but also a distinctive era, specifically 1974. No one could sing from their soul quite like Jerry especially on a tune like Stella Blue. My visual representation of soulful Jerry finds him in mid crescendo surrounded by all the cues of the era, none more iconic than Wolf and of course the Wall of Sound.
As with last year’s ‘Palm Sunday’, I once again chose letterpress as the medium of choice for ‘Stella Blue’. Six hand drawn separations were created to make up the main image with an additional touch of bright red in Wolf’s tongue applied by hand to each print. The Jerry handprint emboss was brought back to add that extra touch, making these prints something really special.”
